What is a Notary Public and Commissioner of Oaths?

Commissioner of Oaths (may also be referred to as Commissioners of Affadivits) are persons appointed and regulated by the Commissioner for Taking Oaths Act to swear or affirm documents such as Affidavits & Statements of Declaration. This authorized person is not responsible for the content of the document but rather for administering an oath or declaration in a manner required by law. The deponent or declarant’s identity and signature are verified at the time of signing.

A Notary Public are persons licensed and governed by the Notaries Act who have the powers of Commissioners for taking Oaths and are licensed to certify, witness and attest to the execution of a document.
